Points of Departure is the definitive collection of Harry Cleaver’s best unpublished, translated, or lesser known writings—both historical and current—on working class refusal, class composition, unwaged work, debt, and what he calls the “inversion of the class perspective.”

Harry Cleaver is an American heterodox Marxist best known for his 1979 book, which was republished to much acclaim in 2000, Reading Capital Politically and his international solidarity efforts on behalf of the Zapatistas. For decades he has reminded militants across the planet of the centrality of working-class self-activity, the refusal of work, and the importance of both reading Marx’s Capital and class struggle from a working class perspective.

With capitalism endlessly imposing work—which, as Harry argues, remains our “central issue”—the struggle against work is not only vital to creating spaces in our own lives for other activities and politics but for going beyond capitalism.
